Mutton Fat Jade (China; rare) – Jade has been prized for more than 7,000 years around the world and the beauty of these antique (ca 1900) glowing Mutton Fate Jade beads have stood the test of time. Mutton Fat is the highest quality, creamy white or yellowish-white nephrite jade, named for its smooth texture resembling raw mutton fat, often sourced from northwestern China’s Hetian region. It's prized for its purity, translucence, and waxy luster, which symbolizes tranquility. Known as the ‘royal gem’ in China, the philosopher Confucius wrote that Jade is like virtue and its brightness represents heaven. The stone comes in a variety of colors and its unique structure scatters light, feels cool to the touch, and, when tapped, chimes.
